The Plockton & District Horticultural and Arts & Crafts Society
Originally established in 1951, as the Plockton Horticultural and Handicrafts Society, we are now in in our 65th year. Since then, the name has been expanded to include the wider district and also to promote a wider range of Arts and Crafts as well as Horticulture. But, to many, we are simply known as the Plockton ‘HortiSoc’.
The Society has a varied program of events throughout the year. A few are for members only, but most are open to all. The opening event of the year is our famous Pot Luck Supper & Quiz, usually held in February. The Society organises two shows for members to display their skills and their produce.
The first of these is the Spring Bulb and Baking Show, usually held in March; the second is the Annual Show held in late August. The schedules for these can be found through the links above.
A summer outing to visit gardens of interest is arranged every year. Over the past few years we have been to Inverewe, Armadale Castle Gardens, Dunvegan Castle Gardens, the Mill at Aultgowrie and Glenkyllachy Lodge.
Other events usually include talks from keen horticulturalists and craft workshops.
The Society is keen to promote gardening, art and craft activities within local schools. There are many categories for younger people at both shows. Entries are free for children and there are cash prizes.
The society has over 100 members. Annual membership of the society starts in February and currently costs £5.00.
